About pediatric medical glasses

From April 1, 2006, for child under 9 years old, glasses and contact lenses only when the doctor recognizes that it is necessary for treatment of "squint", "amblyopia", and "postoperative congenital cataract" is eligible for medical expenses.

When you made pediatric medical glasses based on doctor's instructions, you can claim 70% or 80% of the cost to the Microsoft Health Insurance Association as "medical expenses" after paying the full cost in advance.

Eligible for payment

Glasses and contact lenses needed to treat "squint", "amblyopia", and "postoperative congenital cataract" for child under 9 years old.

Even medical glasses made based on the doctor's instructions, when Microsoft Health Insurance Association judge that the payment is not appropriate, it may not be paid.

Payment amount

The maximum benefit amount is equal to 106/100 (equivalent to the consumption tax on purchases) of the standard price of the therapeutic eyewear in accordance with the regulations.
Based on the maximum amount, 70% (80% for preschool children) of the cost of making or purchasing therapeutic eyewear, etc. will be covered.

In that case of applying for local government

Depending on the local government where you live, You may be able to receive a subsidy for your own expenses for making medical glasses, such as "Children's Medical Expenses Subsidy". When applying to the Microsoft Health Insurance Association, The original receipt cannot be returned, so please have a copy of the receipt in advance.
However, if the local government instructs you to submit the original receipt, we will issue a "Certificate of original receipt" instead of the original. If needed, please let us know when you submit the documents.
